Ghana Used Clothing Dealers Association mourns with Kantamanto Market Traders after Devastating fire

The Ghana Used Clothing Dealers Association (GUCDA) is heartbroken by the catastrophic fire that engulfed the Kantamanto Market on 2nd January 2025. This tragedy has left countless traders, including our own members, grappling with unimaginable loss—not just of their goods, but of their livelihoods, dreams, and hopes for the future.

Kantamanto Market is more than a marketplace. It is a vibrant heartbeat of our nation’s informal economy, a sanctuary where thousands of hardworking men and women strive daily to provide for their families and build better lives. Yesterday’s fire has left this cherished community in ruins, and the pain and uncertainty it has caused is deeply felt by us all.

As we mourn with the traders and families who have lost so much, we are reminded of the resilience that defines Kantamanto. This community has weathered challenges before, and we believe it will rise again—stronger and more united than ever. But this cannot happen without help.

We humbly appeal to the government, corporate organizations, non-profits, and compassionate individuals across the nation and beyond: Kantamanto needs you now more than ever. Together, we can rebuild this iconic market into one that not only restores livelihoods but also ensures greater safety and sustainability for the future.

To our members and the entire Kantamanto community: we stand with you. You are not alone in this struggle. GUCDA is committed to mobilizing resources, advocating for support, and working tirelessly to restore hope and dignity to everyone affected by this disaster.

Let us come together, as one Ghana, to rebuild what has been lost and to prove, once again, the power of unity and compassion.
